I No Longer Wish To Change The World Poem by Francis Duggan

I No Longer Wish To Change The World

The thoughts of changing the World I no longer entertain
The dreams I had of peace on Earth with me did not remain
For famines, wars and terrorism it does seem are with us forever more
I want to be a better person now just that and nothing more.

I just want to be a better person now that is all I wish to be
To make this World a better place to live in should not be up to me
To help those who are frail and old and on low incomes without expecting pay
I would feel pleased if I could perform one good deed every day.

I once dreamt I would change the World but I've forsaken that idea
Though I would feel pleased if I could help one person in poverty
To mow one poor old lady's grass and not charge her a thing
It seems like a feel good thing to do some happiness to a poor one bring.

I no longer wish to change the World I just wish to live and let live
And to help some poorer one than I some of my free time give
War, famines, terrorism and poverty all around the World are rife
And it seems a sad thing for to say that they are a part of life.
