I Saw You In The Firelight Poem by Tim Vallie

I Saw You In The Firelight

I see you in the firelight
I am clinging to the past
But the darkness of night
Like all else does not last
Memories seem unfading
But like time they slip away
The images degrading
As the darkness now gives way
I saw you in the firelight
But fire is burned to ash
You’ve faded from my sight
Because nothing ever lasts
