I Still Believe Poem by TMA

I Still Believe

We live in a world where
There’s so little to believe in
And everyday
Less and less…
So little true, so little steadfast
Even less trustworthy
And faith is broken
Confidence shattered
Who knows what to trust;
The True and the False?

We live in a world where
You mustn’t trust anyone
Least of all yourself
You mustn’t trust anything
And trust no adage, no maxim, save this-
“Trust nothing.”
For Trust could get you killed
And Suspicion could save you
The Cynic survives, the promisekeeper dies
Yet, at the peril of being called a Fool-
I still believe.

Will I not believe,
And hazard Apathy?
Or will I believe and risk Disillusionment?
Things are rarely what they seem;
What, if anything, have you put your trust in?
Be careful, or be let down
Be watchful, or fall
Or you could choose
To believe nothing at all….
But as for me-

I still believe.
I believe in Truth
I believe in God
I believe in Love
I believe in Friendship
I believe in Right.

I may be a fool,
But…
I still believe.

I agree with you throughout your poem and I'm steadfast in my belief that God is the answer to all our problems as you state in the poem. Turn to Him and you will always be a step ahead of the non believer. Good write. Good poem.

Me too any many tell me I'm a fool. Especially those with reality check pipe dreams lol. I believe because we are what we believe. Foolish?
