I Thought Poem by Anders Lim

I Thought

I thought we were meant to be
Clung by unwavering chains
Two penguins in an arctic sea
Through trials of frozen pain

Dried leaves scattered on the ground
All flowers seized to bloom
Dusty affections remain unfound
In Cupid's hall of gloom

I thought maybe, you would stay
To share love's burdensome load
Maybe time did show us a way
What made you change your road?

Tidals hit with treacherous toil
Engulfing her innocent shore
Left in pieces from its recoil
Unable to break anymore

I thought you'd never bid farewell
Or leave our past behind
Abandon me here to forever dwell
In a darkness I could not find

Strong winds brew as sunlight fades
The white clouds wave goodbye
Mountains dim in its own shade
In the glow of a crimson sky

I thought you were forever mine
I thought I was prepared
I thought I could properly define
The true love we both shared

My thoughts lay suppressed under this pain
Caused by your myriad lies
Everything I did was all in vain
Only for a monster to arise
