I Thought I Knew It All Poem by Elia Michael

I Thought I Knew It All

When I was young I thought I knew it all,
But now I'm not so young as I once was
And now I know I do not know it all.
Because I do not know it all, I pause
Before I speak and if I do not know
Then I will say so. But is this a weakness?
A lot of people say that this is so,
Asserting their ideas with cheerfulness.

They think they know it all, they think they do.
Events and time will teach them otherwise,
Then they will realise - it's nothing new,
But some will never be one of the wise.

Events and time will have taught them nothing,
Sometimes it's best not to say anything.
