I'Ve Heard You Laugh Poem by Ms. Queenie

I'Ve Heard You Laugh

I heard you laugh once.
I did.
I made you laugh once.
That one day,
you choked back,
a half-laugh,
on the cig between your lips.
(you cupped your hands
over your grin.)
And it made me smile
Oh, I could hear
your silly laugh
for the rest of the year
I still smile
every time I think...
'cu-cu-huh-hahahahaha'
bent over
eyes squinted
corners of your mouth
seems like they're always, lifted
I've glimpsed the smirk
heard the snigger
but all at once
that laugh was so much,
bigger.
And I wanted,
wanted more,
more than i ever...
had before.
more of your head thrown back.
your hair catching the wind,
as you laughed your joy
through your cig and smoke grin.
but you have feet
that long to explore
you're not my bird
you flap and soar
you're the only one
I know that's free
such a natural lover
of everything
And I know
deep down
I know I can't keep
you, I can't keep you
but at least...
It's not nothing anymore.
Now that I've heard that sound once.
Now that I've made you laugh once.

Very romantic, but you seem defeated here, I hope it does not remain so. Great poetry, I like this one.
