I'Ve Never Fought In War Poem by Francis Duggan

I'Ve Never Fought In War

I've never fought in war and I've often told a lie
But that's human i suppose and one day I'll have to die
And what will it matter then my living will be done
If battles I've not fought and battles I've not won.

He is a millionaire yet why should i envy him
When he is never seen to smile and his countenance looks grim
With him 'tis much wants more he has in him the need
To add another million to his pile such are the ways of greed.

An atheist at heart is all I've ever been
Yet the Goddess that i love is all around me to be seen
Her presence it is real Mother Nature is her name
For to live forever more is her enduring fame.

I'm just your average bloke not anyone of note
A poetaster at heart who could never be a poet
Yet i keep penning on decades beyond my prime
Addicted i suppose to doggerel and to rhyme.

I've never been a sporting great just your average sort of bloke
But i am one who loves life and i can laugh at a joke
I have made a few friends as well as a few foes
One addicted to rhyme that's life i do suppose.
