I'Ve Not Been In Buninyong For Some While Poem by Francis Duggan

I'Ve Not Been In Buninyong For Some While

I've not been in Buninyong for some while how long I cannot say
But of that grand old Village fond memories with me stay
Perhaps now I might feel a stranger there for nothing stays the same
And in Buninyong in Victoria mine's a forgotten name.

Some of those I knew in Buninyong to the reaper have gone
But life in the old Village as usual will go on
Is Kenny Barth alive and well? he was a great old bloke
A man who loved and enjoyed life and laughed at every joke?

Do Ron and Heather still run the show in the Bunny Crown Hotel?
Were I a poet of that pub I'd have great stories to tell
We used to call in there on our way home from work and drink till closing time
But I am that much older now and further from my prime.

I often think of Buninyong we had some good times there
But has time left my Bunny mates as it has left me looking the worst for wear?
For time doesn't wait on anyone it merely ticks away
And the young man twenty years ago now looking rather gray

I've not been in Buninyong for fifteen years I used to love that place
And in the Bunny Crown Hotel mine was a well known face
And every decade brings great change and nothing stays the same
And where I once was known quite well mine a forgotten name.
