I'Ve Wronged You Walt Whitman Poem by Juan Olivarez

I'Ve Wronged You Walt Whitman

I've wronged you Walt Whitman,
I feel that is true.
Because of your free verse,
And thats not something I do.
Well.

But please don't believe I presume to be,
A white hair on your venerable head.
It's not in me to be so eloquent,
I am much to crude and simple instead.

I've been unfair to you Walt Whitman,
And now I feel the shame.
But I never meant to slander you,
Or muddy your great name.
