I Wake Before The Morning Light Poem by Shalom Freedman

I Wake Before The Morning Light

I WAKE BEFORE THE MORNING LIGHT

I wake before the morning light
I pray before the end of night
I begin the day before it begins
I concentrate in the quiet before dawn
I live in the night as if the day
I love the time of peace
I am ahead of myself very early
I love the time before the time begins
Quiet and peace and concentration and rest
And a mind and hands that work on and across the page
Swiftly clearly happily.
