I Want The Past That Will Never Be Again Poem by Shalom Freedman

I Want The Past That Will Never Be Again

I WANT THE PAST THAT WILL NEVER BE AGAIN

I want the Past that will never be again
Flickers of it come to me
With incredible longing
It will not be
It was and it will not be
And when it was
I did not know how to love it and long for it
As I do now-

But I want it
I want it
The Past
So many Pasts
So many times and periods of my life
That will never be again-

How I long for them
And will never have them
How I will die
Incomplete in everything
Never having realized
So many of my deepest longings-
