I Want To Be Immortal Poem by THEO RAY

I Want To Be Immortal

I want to be immortal, near the swallowing light, embraced by Christ.
I want to be immortal, shaking off this cloak of skin and bone, entering
the unknown.
I want to be immortal, in this late autumn sun, where the gold chariot
hung.

I want to be immortal, for I am nothing, oh sweet angel's abode, where
there is no code, but love's highest calling, the vagabond's road.
Immortal twilight, the maiden's gold hair shines, as she bathes in the
meadow-drunk from wine.
Immortal sacred moon stained the sky. I've learned to hide-my life is a lie,
the black cloud is a shroud, the black cloud is mine. The desolate life, the
ceremonial-dance of stars, the shadow of my heart, the wild flower, an ode
to this dying hour. I want to be immortal, where the pillars of God stand, I
want to be immortal, this blood in my hand. I fell to earth again, I heard the sound of wind, the pastoral song is sung, the shadow of the cross I clung....
I want to be immortal, in this land of Nod, candles lit to summon the god.
I want to be immortal, perhaps I am not, I wearily embrace this humble lot.
Immortal twilight the maiden weeps the night, the immortal sacred moon is
wide, the wine grapes red and high, the poet strums the harp, for it is dark, and the poem's end is nigh.

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

Your writing is full of nature's wonderous beauty. You include God and Angels to glorify thoughts. Nicely written. There is an intense form of lonliness that screams out and shares. It brings the reader closer. Your choice of words describe visions that are easy to see. Immortalizing your poetry is possible this way. Strong and deep, your feelings speak high of real emotion. DC
