I Woke In A Dream Poem by Eric Mwenda

I Woke In A Dream

From the roses
and maidens
and riches
and everything
of the empress of dreams,
I awoke, dreaming
in a dream

The chills were real
as reality was home.
Though it pained
as it pains now,
the bat was bright
wit smiles of toiling many,
I, among them.

And my destiny was mine
to claim and cherish,
in the flickering light.
I had trekked the lost world
and found a home
and i was rested

but just as penetrating rays
invade in this world
it dawned in that other
and i woke

re-united with fleeing sweetness
of a tired conjurer of a mind.
As the cacoon assembles
once more
I kiss my glittering castles
and tag at my empress' hem
