If All The World Were Lost Poem by Lee Gelis

If All The World Were Lost

I

If all the world were lost
With all men standing by
Would I make a move to save it
Ever someone by my side?

Don’t let amusement stop me
Don’t let me fear the turns
But even so some doubt arises
To maybe let it burn?

When the world begins to fall
Will I be its defense
Will I even have a voice
Or will safety further hence?

See history tells a story
Or stories all that blend
But even for the lot of us
Feel like extras in the end?

And as the world begins to crumble
With mankind standing by
With what great strength would I use
If ever even sly?

I have no gifts, abilities
No extraordinary power
Where be my uniqueness
When it’s barely but a flower?

Would I sacrifice my anything
To save this ever land
What reason would I have
To even lift a hand?

I fear it’s not my nature
To enjoy this line of work
How can I continue it
With barely but a quirk?

If all the world were lost
Where will the white caps be
What virtue will I see without
A grain of energy?

The people are outstanding
Outrageously commanding
Do they always have their tyrades
Without sensibility ever landing?

Not all of them are like so
Some are even wise
But is part of being as such
To never take some pride?

And I ask myself again
If all the world were lost
Would ever I lend a hand
Into the struggle tossed?

II

But yes, I do admit
I am but barely clever
What makes the cast so interesting
Is its everlong endeavor.

The actors here are learning
Forever so it seems
With a hint of dignity and
Without regret life gleams.

That enough is sufficient
To convince of magic I think
So yes I do suppose that
I’d save this dreadful rink.

And even if the world burns
Leaving ashes in its place
At least it will be human
That crusades itself to space.

III

We will survive, we must
Perhaps we'll never die
But still I cannot contain myself
From asking the question why?
