If Eyes Could Speak Poem by Andrus Cassian

If Eyes Could Speak

Blue and yellow; the color contents of the blank page
reminding me of marigolds and violets
Excuse me, I haven't introduced myself
Hello I'm Devon
at least that's what it says on my Government paper
For see, I'm in class
but what the teacher is saying
is knocking on the door to my ear
but I'm walking out the back door
I'm seeking confidence from an unknown source
to follow through with the plan within my thoughts
but still I stay here in halted stillness
Backfire, I'm afraid of the term
I'm scared I'm at risk of just getting my hopes up
to slip on a block of ice of stupidity
If only my eyes could speak
then not an ounce of sweat would felt
then not an ounce of nervousness would shine through
and the way she looks today isn't helping
My eyes betray and cannot look away
her beauty attracts like bees are magically attracted to honey
My stare befalls her accidentally
holding significantly
If only she could look back and see
gaze back and see what I'm having so much trouble to say
to understand why I'm so hesitant
Alas, I still sit her silently mysterious
afraid of the outcome of a risk
casting a stare of inquiry
while receiving a glance of 'not interested'
Alas
