If My Head Was Up Side Down Poem by Noorie Ali

If My Head Was Up Side Down

If my head was up side down -
If my head was upside-down and I saw the word with up side down eyes
Then I would see myself next to butterflies.
Were I’d be floating and uttering words that were unknown to you
The smile on my lips would be frowning like an upset ant
My hair would be hung down like the horse’s tale then I’d be nothing but a frail
Cat clung on to you with awkward looking eyes, my claws would then be shaped like pebbles
My hands would be slithering all round your soft pale skin
My tongue would come out soggy and slump
My voice would be screeching in your ear then would I be welcomed
In, your home, out of my many homes?
My footsteps be drenched black
I’d sit there innocently
With my white paws
And, the saddle of an upright tale.
And then I’d be nameless to the bone.
