if one word
could change the world,
i'd say it,
and go home.
if one action
would stop the wars,
i'd do it,
whatever the cost.
if one intent
could change the way
we see each other,
i'd follow it
to my grave.
if one desire
could feed the hungry,
it would be,
my only desire!
if one life
would pay the cost,
that brings freedom,
and equality to all...
i'd pay the price today!
It is all good metaphorically speaking, but when you talk of this greater good you should remember that it might be not you life required but someone else's. Could you still take that life? Could you make a choice for somebody else? And should you? Self sacrifice is easy leadership is not. When judgement calls have to be made, are you the one that wants to make them? I can say sometimes I wish I got too. But other times I think to myself I'm glad I'm not that guy. For when your under a microscope mistakes are costly. Sometimes your hated for what you have came into not of your own doing. Could you be fall guy for somebody else mistakes without lashing out at them? Could you accept their is nothing you can do to fix certain problems and and fix the ones you know you can before you even think about worry about them. Triage is certainty above uncertainty. Could you defy the people for the people. It is way more complicated then just one. Though it still most certainly a great poem.
