If People Were Pooches Poem by Rachel LeBaron

If people were pooches
Then life would be grand!
We'd run all about,
You must understand,
With tails a-waging
And the wind in our hair
We'd run all around
With nary a care.

We wouldn't worry
About clothes or shoes
We'd just play games
To find out who'd lose!
We'd never be lonely
With dogs all around
You'd just bark and soon
A friend would be found!

If people were pooches
We wouldn't have to fuss
About who would go
And get on the bus.
We wouldn't worry
About tests or exams
We'd just need to know
If this stick is Sam's?

God would be our master,
Caretaker and friend
With Him we'd stick
Stick through to the end.
He'd pet us and scratch us
And feed us you know
And when He'd get up
We'd get up and go!

With barking and waging
And sniffing and whining
And panting and running
And walking and trotting
We'd faithfully follow
Our Master and Friend
Through fields and valleys
That would never end!

And when He'd stop
Then we'd stop too
And gather around
While He tied a shoe.
And sniffing and whining
We'd ask 'What's wrong? '
And He'd laugh and say
'Well, let's carry on! '

And away we'd bound
Through forests of trees
Slobbering and barking
And running from bees!
And when we'd like
To take a quick nap
He'd sit down and let us
Sleep in His lap!

And now I hope
You're inclined to agree
That life would be better,
Much better, you see
If people were pooches
And couches were smooches
Then life would be mooches
More better for we!
