If You Were A Melody Poem by Mokganedi Tatlhego

If You Were A Melody

If you were a melody
I could already hear the notes floating through your strum
The undemanding all-encompassing notes of an acoustic guitar plucked
Felt from the inner core to the exterior resembling a hearty hum
One purred to cure the earthy pains of those closer to the heart
Rare notes bounded by purity and impossible to put apart
A rare melody not fitting to be shared but rather kept as one raw cut
Memorised and whispered in the heart all time
Dusted and played loud when times get hard
Without you much would be dull
The world has many adoration expressions drab
So I just wish only….
that you were a melody
