Imaginary Lovers Poem by Mihaela Pirjol

Imaginary Lovers

Imaginary keys,
wishing to open doors
of imaginary rooms:
suspended on trembling hands…
contracts already made,
and contracts desiring to be made;
weighed with an unsuitable scale:
balancing heavy
romantic love.

Rental contracts,
wishing to open doors
of furtive passions,
and exploding behind
carefully locked doors:
as prisoners escaping
chains and cells:
to freedom of the heart,
unconstrained by regulations.

An exasperate oscillation:
between mind and heart…
and a lacerating jealousy!
Between being alive,
and pretending a life:
between ‘I love you'
felt, yet unuttered;
and ‘I love you'
uttered, but unfelt.
