Change is known against unseen permanence
Finitude against the concept of fullness
As ignorance cries out to omniscience
Life seeks out immortality
While time rivers sequentially into eternity
Someone taught me
The latter in all these is the same
And I am truly the latter
Transient all the former
Birds that sing and die in the bush
Winds breathing their last stopped by mounts
Flowers that smile in the sun and wither at night
Spring-time streams that dry up in the heat
Galaxies spinning into black-hole mouths
All of them transient asked me aloud:
What are we and where are we
In the grand schematology
Of your pompous immortality?
Head bent, shamed by their poser
I knew they were the very mirror
In which I saw my fullness
Complete if I am, a mirror
Outside me is sure an error
They are in me, so never apart
Immortal, all in one
The non-dual song of eternity
We can sing only together
Never alone, never alone!
When I am not looking at, or thinking about flowers, birds and galaxies, they do not exist. The same fate is held by me
You do not shy away from a philosophical topic, do you? ? ? I applaud your ability to put forth your philosophy clearly yet so poetically.... that is a difficult thing to do but you did it and did it well. We all have our own beliefs concerning immortality and such topics so I will only comment on the poetic aspects of your piece. I found this stanza so stirring and perfectly presented- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Birds that sing and die in the bush Winds breathing their last stopped by mounts Flowers that smile in the sun and wither at night Spring-time streams that dry up in the heat Galaxies spinning into black-hole mouths All of them transient asked me aloud: - - - - - - - - - - - - - -May I say WoW! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
Immense thanks for your comments. I would like to make one point. My philosophy or my understanding of immortality with particular reference to this poem is not a belief. It is knowledge. A belief is subject to correction on producing contrary evidence. Knowledge is not. I can arraign a lot of irrefutable logic to prove my point. This is not the place for it. I have given hints to it in the last stanza. Elsewhere, I saw that you were apologetic that you delayed your reply to one of my comments about your Three Day Tree poem. Please don't be so sensitive. I don't reply at all unless I have something substantial to say, as in this case.
I think that immortality is a part of our being and our fundamental particle i.e. the soul carries on and on birth after birth until it reaches sate of purity wherein it merges with the universal soul, while maintaining its own individuality. A wonderful poem on a question that has occupied man's mind since the time immemorial.
A great philosophical write. Yes, we have the same question....What are we and where are we? The concluding lines says it all. I knew they were the very mirror In which I saw my fullness Complete if I am, a mirror Loved reading it.
A great philosophical write. The relation between man and the universe, the immortality of life, our inner n outer selves, all the concepts are so beautifully put. In the third stanza the transience of life is depicted in wonderful imagery. Really enjoyed it. The question of our identity in the vast scheme of universe has always troubled the poets n philosophers. The last stanza finds the answer....everything is connected. We mirror the universe n are a part of the whole. We carry the universe within us...a lovely realization. A10
This is too philosophical....! It is true that there is a divine spark in everyone... But somehow, I cannot agree with the notion.. Aham Brahmasmi'..... the belief that the core of one's being is the ultimate reality! ! I really enjoyed the diction and the force with which you have brought forth your convictions! A sure 10
