Immortals Descend To The Earth! Poem by Rajendran Muthiah

Immortals Descend To The Earth!

A stormy wind battered that village
and flying tin sheets from the roof-tops
severed some heads in the streets.
The dogs and bulls cried in alarm.
The young and old ran to take cover.
Lightning was frightening the place.
The deafening noise of thunders
and the heavy showers flooding soon
drove of the silence bathed there.
A boy from the college was strolling
towards his home with his bent head.
“ The fellow has lost his poise”, someone said.
The Kangaroo court punished him
and humliated him in his teen age
for a crime he committed not.

The scar in his heart had made him wage
a silent war against the country brutes.
The betrayal of his love had blasted his mind.
Her lies in fear dealt a blow to his love.
No willing girl shared his lovely looks
and the great works were the retreats for him.
Jobs and growth, good wife and children
brought him peace and comfort.
He just smiled when his love made pleas
for forgiveness for the lies she told in her teens.
He forgot to drink potion or to jump down
from any suicide-point in hills around
as he had gone fathoms deep into the books
and swam in the ocean of fancy.
When mortals dare to sprain an innocent,
Immortals descend to share his pain.
