In Dreams Poem by Myrtle Thomas

In Dreams

In Dreams

the thoughts run deep
in a peaceful sleep
as dreams do carry me away
to a time that I could dance and sway

and youth was a friendly face
with long slender legs I won life's race
and mellowed with the hands of time
an energy that grew in the sunshine

in colorful vision, behind sleepy eyes
a youthful girl, naked without disguise
stood before a harvest moon
as I swooned to a silent tune

to bloom and bask in golden dreams
to move through life like swift streams
calmly moves with life's flow
as in silent scenes dreams shimmer and glow

awaken to bones so old, aches and pain
to admonish this body to one more day sustain
for dreams these days are of golden gates
for this soul death's sleep awaits

for each day now I feel death's appeal
to escape pain's chains so real
so reality awakens a sleeping soul
as I survey this life, did I accomplish it's goal?
though that day will come to release
the pain in this life will cease
and lay this world aside
for sleep in dreams I'll abide.
