In Every Corner There Is A Woman Poem by Paulos Ioannou

In Every Corner There Is A Woman

In every corner there is a woman
yesterday, today and tomorrow.

There is always a woman
standing at the corner
breastfeeding the newborn,
the pain and the pleasure.

There is a girl holding
the hem of her dress.
Tomorrow she would be standing at the corner
breastfeeding a newborn.

The man is absent,
he is the emptiness
in these streets of melancholy and despair.
He has a window to look outside
as all men wont to do.

Will he open the door,
will he invite her in
or will he call the police to
remove the nuisance?
