In Memory Of A Good Heart Poem by Gwen S M Torres

In Memory Of A Good Heart

After all that’s been said. After all that has happened.
After the bitter words of hate.

After the hurt sets in. After the pain prevails.
After the memories of lies.

After the tears. After the regrets.
After the misery. After asking why.

Why?
Why do you remember?
Why do you still ache?
Why do you still feel?
Why after all this time?
Why still?

Where is your heart?
Who holds it now?
What is there left to say?
When would you stop?

Leave it behind.
Let it die.
Don’t take it back.
There’s nothing left.
It’s already in pieces.

Find a new heart.
A heart that is whole.
A heart that has not been broken.
A heart untainted.
Yet still as good.

Take a good look.
Believe in it.
Don’t give it all.

Just a little.
Or a part.
Or not at all.

Keep it.
