In Open Yard Poem by Mehta Hasmukh Amathaal

In Open Yard

Rating: 3.9

Millions of tones of food grains just stored
Not for the normal situation to be restored
Piled in open just to get it wasted
No one stands to be blamed and responsibility not rested

The scores of people die due to starvation
There is no need for poverty alleviation
The poor themselves may be wiped out
This is story of human crisis and all about

The food grains rot in open yards
It remains unattended and doesn’t go forward
Many people sleep with hunger
There is hue and cry with anger

I sit not the shame on humanity?
We talk about moral and eternity
There is man made tragedy and misery
This crime has become almost necessary

We want to build empire on human skulls
Many people loose lives in fight with bulls
Many bear bullet wounds on the chest
Terrorists do their work nicely as the best

What to talk of humanity at large?
The atmosphere is with full of charge
We don’t regret any shameful act
We have lost the morality to react

We have enough to feed so we don’t bother
We see nom reason to stand together
We also want others not to be comfortable
Nothing should reach them or made affordable

We live with mean mentality and till feel proud
We have all the arguments that may look sound
We live in simplicity to present it as ideal model
Why not we be called fanatics and infidels?

Do we not butcher our own brethrens?
Do we not go for light with lanterns?
We have gone completely blind
Such inhuman behavior is not worthy to find
