In The Interest Of Time Poem by Mustafa Marconi

In The Interest Of Time

In the interest of time
We forward to the conclusion
Smooth out the ridges
And cover the lesions
Hopeful that the victims are forgiving
Their off-springs misguided
Unfocused and confused
Lacking concern and direction
Swayed by socially accepted behavior
And subtle manipulation
We map out a slew of itineraries
Gently prodding the masses to pursue
Empty promises and hallow dreams
Those who straggle or defy
Shall pass through the various revolving doors
Of our grand institutions
Where hope is crushed
And life is undervalued

*******

In the interest of time
We gloss over the iniquities of the past
Minimize our responsibilities
And convince the victims that they are to blame
For their position in life
Dividing our faithful minions
Economically, religiously, ethnically, and socially
Lacking true freedom and spiritual direction
Swayed by popular culture
Self destructive behavior
And governmental indifference
We map out a slew of scenarios
Strongly persuading the masses
To swallow empty promises and broken dreams
Those who lag behind
Shall subsequently slip through painful cracks
Or find shelter in one of our first-rate institutions
Where hope is annihilated
And life has no value

******

In the interest of time
We camouflage the truth
And perpetuate the lie
Instruct all involve to overlook the past
To accept the premise that the playing fields have been leveled
And to enthusiastically forge ahead
Despite the open wounds, the scars
Infections and disease
Convinced that the victims will never open their eyes
We occupy their attention
With a ball or a bone
And imprison them with the burden
Of socially accepted behavior
And subliminal manipulation
Gently persuading modern indenture servants
To smooth out the periphery
And cover the lesions
Lacking true freedom and spiritual direction
The frustrations manifest
With self destructive behavior
Dependency and lethargy
For hope has vanished
And human life is dangerously and sadly greatly undervalued
