In The Market Poem by Sam Pendlebury

In The Market

Do you still love me enough to fall asleep in my arms,
Or am I just someone else in the market
Do you love me so that when you see me you want to
Grab me and never let go
Or am I just some guy you use to know one isle over
In the market
Do you love me so that when our eyes meet, you never
Want to look away
Or am I just a passing glance as you search for something
On the top shelf, in the market
When you stood behind me in the check out line,
Did you think for a minute to take my hand and say to the World he's with me
Or was I just some man without the proper change
When I helped you with your bags, as you walked out the market door
Did you think let me take him home and lock the door
Or was I just somebody that helped you with your bags and no more
And as you drove away did you pause for a moment and think he still
Has my heart
Or did you just drive away, and never look back and think,
Only about the diner you must start
