In This World Yet Not Of This World Poem by Fiona Schwartzinoff

In This World Yet Not Of This World

Rating: 3.0

I am in this world
Yet not of this world.
I see into wild regions
That in my mind unfurl

Filled with memories
And facts and fears
And shameful secrets
Which have crossed my ears.

I live as a child
Yet I see beyond age
Into an ocean brimming
With follies and sage.

I dwell in a house
While my hearts leaps away
To places no one knows
And lands I cannot say.

I speak English clearly
Yet have a language of my own
Which sings away, through caves
Of subconscious, ballads unknown.

I am the daughter of a man and woman
But I am the daughter of earth and sky too.
Though siblings swarm about me in a house
I am sister to the ocean blue.

I’ll finish writing these words here
But my writing is never done
Until I breathe my last breath,
My soul echoes past moons and suns.
