In Those Days (We Could Dance) Poem by Toni Atchison

In Those Days (We Could Dance)

In those days we could dance.
For our hearts and bodies were not so old
that they could forget what a joy there was
in that freedom of movement.
And in those days we could climb every mountain,
for nothing was too high
or too far
or too scary for the likes of us.
And I remember loving the wild stormy nights,
the sweet days that lasted forever,
the scent of you on my skin.
I remember those days,
because in those days, we could dance.
