Inside My Own Nook Poem by RIC BASTASA

Inside My Own Nook

when i was small
when mother beats me
and father does not mind
i keep my own secret
in that nook
and do things all by myself

the love of self
despite
this awareness of my own
light
in my own darkness
i must learn to shine

it is the beginning of wisdom
loving myself
and doing the best of what i can be
without anybody's hands
touching mine.
