Inspiring A Generation Poem by Kevin Lee

Inspiring A Generation

It's all been said, it's all been done
Champions crowned, medals won

A massive success without exception
A Games that delivered and altered perception

Human sacrifice in pursuit of glory
Behind each hero lies a story

Of loss, courage and years of pain
Overcoming adversity in order to gain

Acceptance, respect and support from a world
That's rich with prejudice, where abuse is hurled

At those who look different - the tall and the short
At those who aren't ‘normal' we act without thought

But this was a time when we all stood together
A kingdom united to applaud such endeavour

New stars emerged and legends retired
Records were shattered as we were inspired

The cheers of the volunteers, the roar of the crowd
Well done London, you've done us proud

You've changed our views on disabled sport,
Delivered a legacy, a welcome retort

And to those Paralympians we thank you all
For making us smile, we've had a ball
