Instant Gratification Poem by Kalee Skriver

Instant Gratification

You know,
You'd think we could just pick up our walking sticks and not fall behind,
Or maybe we can slow down this pace and take one step at a time.
But no,
We are too preoccupied with the elusive idea of the miraculous now,
and we want what we want when we want it
And are determined to get it somehow.
A haze of constant rethinking and continuous discontent,
This focus of selfishness has only given us more cause for regret.
What happened to the treasure in the smile of a friend?
Or the simple pleasure of having and giving a hand to extend?
Let us please,
Not forget that there is much cause for spontaneous celebration.
Let us not become consumed by this temptation of instant gratification.
