Invalid Entry Poem by Vera Sidhwa

Invalid Entry

Rating: 5.0

'Did I do well today Mommy,
And was my work from school really good? '
The little one asked and waited.
Mommy looked at her kitchen, never replying.

'Is my red bicycle really, pretty Daddy,
And did I ride it really, really fast? '
Dad's head was in the bills,
He shuffled them around, never replying.

Look mom and dad,
I was just born right now,
I was born this second,
Look mom and dad.

The parents listening to their newborn,
Saw that the very valid entry of their son,
Into this world was beautiful.

Yet they treated him as an invalid entry.
