Is This The Road? Poem by Wale Morakinyo

Is This The Road?

I'll endure a little more
Yet a little of this road I tour
I have danced, my heels to touch my hand
To this rhythm that hoots in my head
5. I will dance but a little more

I will dance; I will clap and sing 'till dawn
Is this the road that leads to town?
Is this the road my Pa told me?
Honey with milk and silk waits me
10. To eat like King and dress like queen

This road of ants and hays in stakes!
I ate the ants and fed on hays
Relished their crumbs like sweets in paste
'Till my tummy rumbles with thirst
15. And in anguish for help it cries

Is this the road I’ll ask again?
Or just my dream at work again
This forsaken road, these forsaken paths
Where dead trees, dried leaves and shattered pots
20. Describes our world without its gain
