Is This What Hell Is Like?

Is this what hell is like?
I have been here so long
Muskets, muskrats, musketeers
Bosch-inspired clamorings
Feet protruding from the jaws
of green, foul, sulfur-stenched beasts
No, a closer place
A snowy enclave
Soaked in the rain
Feet drenched
Teeth stinging
Left with nothing
My intestines burst
a hail of blood from the lips
Me, myself, nor I
Nor the government
Nor corporate America
Could save this meaningless soul.

Poem of the Day

poet Ralph Waldo Emerson

Knows he who tills this lonely field
To reap its scanty corn,
What mystic fruit his acres yield
At midnight and at morn?

In the long sunny afternoon,
