It Is Not By The Best Of Example They Lead Poem by Francis Duggan

It Is Not By The Best Of Example They Lead

It is not by the best of example they lead
But those into self promotion they seem to succeed
The humble at heart always seem to lose out
The bigger the success the bigger the mouth,
The humble quiet achievers we tend to ignore
And for them we seldom do hear an encore
Self love in the extreme egos do inflate
And the adoring public false gods do create
The over-blown ego is hard to deflate
And so few are humble and so few are great
And those with over-inflated egos you meet everywhere
The down to earth people have always been rare
And though I'm one of those people who quickly of them does tire
Those with inflated egos so many admire.
