It's Never Easy Poem by Catherine Hebert

It's Never Easy

Rating: 5.0

Tears flowing from his eyes,
I began to see the sadness,
As I watched the strongest man I know,
Break down and cry.
It's so hard to say goodbye.

He taught me about family.
He taught me about love.
But most importantly, he taught me how to survive.

I couldn't picture life any other way,
Than with this man right by my side.

A shoulder to cry on,
A hand to hold,
The most support a girl could ever know.
These are the three things that I constantly received.
Oh, how much love I have seen.

How lucky could I be,
To know he loves me?

I wish I could take away his pain,
The hurt in his eyes.
All I can do is stand by
And let him know that I love him, too.
It's so hard to say goodbye.
But no, you're not alone.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Right at the end of last year's fall semester, my dad's father passed away. I had never seen my dad cry before, and I did not know what to do to comfort him. Everyone handles grief in their own way, and finding ways to cope with the inevitable proves to be difficult. My father has always been in my life to love, comfort, and support me in everything I have ever set out to do. The night I wrote this he apologized to me for not being a better dad to me. I did not know what to say because to me, he is my hero, my rock, my support system. I could not have asked for a better man to teach me about life and guide me through my journey here on Earth. This poem was my way of reaching out to him to let him know how much he means to me and that I'll always be here for him.
