It’s Not The Devil Poem by Michael P. Johnson

It’s Not The Devil

We chase life’s shadows in the dark
We doubt The First & Last
Sinning each day missing the mark
Like others in the past

We’re lifting high the devil’s name
To Satan’s tune we sing
Dancing in filthy robes of shame
Before The risen King

We say the devil keeps us down
He makes us break the law
He cheats and steals our hallowed crown
And keys to Heaven’s door

We say he’s wily strong and sly
He’s fearsome in our sight
So develops the cunning lie
We have no hope to fight

But Satan’s ‘lost’ his clout to rule
He’s lost all hope to win
We give him strength playing the fool
Bowing to foolish sin

We lie we cheat we live in hate
Like foolish sheep astray
We open darkness every gate
When God we disobey

Regardless how the truth yet seems
To those of us still blind
It’s not the devil’s wily schemes
Nor demons in the mind

We’ve got to see, we’ve got to learn
We’ve got to understand
Or otherwise we’ll live and burn
Outside The Promised Land
