It's The Flag Of Your Nation Poem by Francis Duggan

It's The Flag Of Your Nation

On the flagpost in your backyard in the wind it toss and wave
And many gave their lives for it and they were young and brave
It's the flag of your Nation and of it you feel so proud
And it's colours were in battles where the guns were booming loud.

It's the flag of your Nation and I have heard you say
That you would give your life for it though you are old and gray
And those who don't respect it you see them as the foe
The old flag of your Nation that in the breezes blow.

It's the flag of your Nation tossing in the wind and rain
You fought for it as a young man and you'd fight for it again
The years have left you feeble you walk with a walking cane
But the passion of the patriot till death with you will remain.

A flag to me just a piece of cloth I'm different to you
And to the flag of any Nation I never could feel true
But then I never was a soldier and I never travelled far
From my Homeland to another Land for to risk my life in war.

On the flagpost in your back yard it is tossing in the breeze
You fought for it when you were young in a Land beyond the seas
The old flag of your Nation of it you feel so proud
And it's colours were in battles where the guns were booming loud
