It Takes My Breath Away Poem by Alfred Ramos

It Takes My Breath Away

It Takes My Breath Away
Where the mountains kiss the sky
Slivers of sunlight slip through the scattered clouds
In the breeze weeping willows bow as if in prayer
Lush green hills meet the valley down below
A large crevice snakes its way to a shimmering lake
It takes my breath away
As a child I ran wild
In the tall grass and outcroppings
Then I ran away
To a concrete city filled with dust and despair
With people wandering aimlessly unnoticed
Wearing unsanitary smiles as if forced
The buildings of glass and steel, with no feel for the land
Cold in stature as they block the floating sun
The rush to get nowhere, a scurry of insanity
Coffee cup in one hand, cell phone in the other
They isolate themselves in a crowd
Living on the edge of humanity
It took my breath away, differently
So I ran away again
To the place I belong
Still wildflowers bloom with butterflies as hosts
Songbirds in harmony with the wind, sing away
Beautiful noises amplified by the stillness
You could toss a skipping stone without interrupting serenity
It takes my breath away
