Jammu River (In India) Poem by Onyeka Nwelue

Jammu River (In India)

The bus with the sign, 'Wordsmiths' rode through
the wide-overgrown road
and songs ravaged in it

the forests sang so many songs
that soothed my heart to the grim
I wondered in my mind what God is doing

for without him, what could we be
rebels? With budging stomach
like those hungry children
that lined up on the path near Jammu River

the Ganga river swept through our eyes
and we rode and rode

the sweet breeze swooped into our ears
