Jewelry Of The Heavens Poem by Emmanuel George Cefai

Jewelry Of The Heavens

Jewelry of the heavens
stars of night.

I that have suffered
and suffered for
suffering.

Suffered in ever-increase.

Have a full glass
full glass to the Rim.

those that are low
they are prone to
be discarded
and dark faced oblivion
waits them.

already
the folds of the oblivion's
mantle
close around me.

And
I hear my own self-cries
of anguish despair
of suffering of suffering.

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

DESPAIR OF THE SUFFERING OF SUFFERING expresses inner turmoil as far as it can be put into word. I'm reminded of what a psychiatrist (and a very compassionate and thoroughly generous one) said to me about how depression and stress both tend to spiral out away from the patient and all too soon infect the environment through which he or she moves, making a solution seem absolutely futile. But if through talk therapy the pain could be focused and localized in the patient's being, then there was the possibility to squeeze the life out of it. Already in this poem the speaker can see DARK FACED OBLIVION in the near distance. So now instead mof wrestling with a depression which is hard enough s/he must wrestle with this terrifying giant of ill intent. And such projections of the mind have replaced the pre-modern devil because both are projections of our death wish and both must be resolutely defeated. They are vampires that prey upon us for no reason except because they ARE US in our despair.Remove the despair and your remove the demon who symbolizes it. Give me my vajra sword - I am going to slay the enemies of life and happiness.
