Jewels And Treasures Poem by Mellisa Salazar

Jewels And Treasures

i heard there were jewels somewhere

deep beneath the ground and

I’ve got forever to stick around

I dugand dug and dug deep into the ground

and then i forgot what i was looking for

so i sat at the bottom and looked up

and said “this is where i shall live”

nothing can reach me here, nothing but I

but as long as i waited, i never fell away

and it finally occurred to me that maybe

this is not where i wanted to be

until you dug a tunnel and ran right into me

and together we climbed, climbed to be free

if we dig a hole to hide

we’ll only have mountains twice as high to climb

and when i reached the top, the wind was pure

and clean, it was then that i realized

the only jewels are clear to see

i surely did find buried treasure

after i buried me
