Judgement Poem by Marcquiese Burrell

Judgement

It baffles you of my disposition?
so you misinterpret my decision
how I live life, don't need permission
your fear provides you ammunition
you'll never see me as an equal
guess the visual is too lethal
Everything you've said, I have heard before
I know the stereotypes, I choose to ignore
thing is, I don't owe anyone an explanation
understand? you're on the outside looking in
societal ignorance gave me a thicker skin
I stand solid as a rock, are you in shock?
I knocked you out and became the champion
you don't acknowledge that it has happened
Time for you to bow and come to acceptance
The world around you is changing, expect it
who you going run to when no one is standing with you
you can see this as a loss because the war has been won

now, I'm guessing you would sell your soul
to a time when the world was a little cold
Can't catch hold onto what you can't control
now you're at a loss, this a sight to behold
knowledge is worth more than silver and gold
you see it's hopeless look around you
you can voice your opinion or make an attempt
when you see that you can't change societies view
this is the dream that society will one day come
together in a nation where we stand divided
let them have a voice, the people have decided

you will never understand nature and it's law
when you fixed your tongue to leave me scared
you underestimated who I was and I fought hard
karma will surely hit you when you're off guard
I do understand that everyone's entitled to their own opinion
but that doesn't mean that everyone's going to listen
I take full responsibility of my own convictions
you think you doing right when you go about it wrong
you think you doing something you ain't changed nothing
and some have realized that this wasn't how they were born
and some have faced the struggle in life and have been shunned
and some of you have visions of seeing this type of population gone
but it's in human nature to be just a little different
if everyone were the same, the world around us would be boring
human nature is imperfect-ed we're all trying to reach perfection
