Jules Et Jim Poem by Denys E. W. Jones

Jules Et Jim

Watching Truffaut’s Jules et Jim,
At length I started wondering
When this masterpiece was made.
I glanced at the disc’s box and learned
The film was shot in nineteen sixty-two.
I swear my heart did skip a beat,
For I was born in that year too!
“Well, fancy that! ” I cried out loud,
“It seems we’re the same age.”
Then came the speculative thought:
“Our birth-years coincide,
So does this mean we’ll share our year of death? ”
I’d say it’s safe to rule that out –
The stars know my expiry date,
But these two pals can never die.
As long as there are DVDs,
And cinema or TV screens,
This film won’t lack an audience.
For sure folk shall watch Jules et Jim
When my cold ashes float upon the wind.
