Just So Poem by Rose James

Just So

I stayed awake all night
Just thinking of your eyes
The corners of your mouth turned up
My hands running through your hair
Shoes kicked under the table
Joy pouring out of your mouth
And sadness too
The look of that single tear as it makes its way down your face
Your hand on my waist
Your lips on my cheek
Your chin on my shoulder
And it all seems so perfect
Yet so out of reach
Like you will always be a few centimetres out of my grasp
My arms straining to hold you
But you give me one last smile and a smoky laugh
And you turn
My lungs slow down
The weight of my head rests on white
And my eyes slowly close
Just so I can see your face again
Just so I can see you smile again
