Just The Right Words Poem by Dónall Dempsey

Just The Right Words

Rating: 5.0

The sea
accepts me.

Sees me
as no different
than itself.

I am

not apart from it

just a part of it.

The sea doesn’t see
me as human

merely a piece of
floating something
or other.

I become the sea
& the sea accepts me

until I am
now itself

& nothing more.

My mind
drifts to shore.

A wave
plays with me

lifts me up
& tries to stick me

onto the horizon
but I fail to stick

fall back

into a drifting
nothing.

soaking up sunlight.

Thoughtless
I float.

The sea
now pleased to be me

& thinking
with my mind

searching endlessly
for just

...the right words.

It is strange, your poems sound like folklore - very melodious or like a song of the sirens, half human - half fish: 'I am not apart from it / just a part of it'...A fairy-tale.
