Just Watching Poem by RoseAnn V. Shawiak

Just Watching

Laughing, joyfully watching seniors dancing and having
a great time, doing what they love to do.

Hoping to be as energetic as these eighty and ninety
year olds when I reach their age.

All of these seniors putting me to shame for the time
being.

I saw a movie, a documentary about two young NYC choreographers who did this very thing with a group of seniors. At the end of the film the seniors perform their dance for a grade school audience, and it brings tears to your eyes to see the joy on both sides of the stage. Then a teacher said, Now, we have a surprise for you. And the kids performed a dance they had created and practiced for the occasion. More smiles and tears. Your poem captures this dynamism in words. Even more smiles and tears. It's really more than watching. It'd s bonding across several art fields, all serving the arts of peace.
