Kids Who... Poem by Ronnell Evans

Kids Who...

I've seen kids of my generation oil the treads of their tanks and roll over daffodils and roses.
Who grow wings and try to catch their dreams that only exist on the ground.
Kids who come home drunk, dazed, and confused.
Who tell their parents that they don't love them;
Who probably suffer every day at the hands of those same parents.

Kids who swear and swear and swear until what they say becomes fact.
Who value the body parts of the opposite sex over free education in the classroom.
Who fight teachers, the only souls willing to educate the population.
Who drive down the wrong side of the street and cause a massive traffic pileup.

Kids who sleep all day on their bed of hidden fear.
Who stick up an obscene finger to the protectors of our neighborhood.
Who live in the internet as a full-time resident.
Who defend things that aren't really theirs to begin with.

Kids who break all the rules to put the corporal hotshots in their place.
Who promote violence to solve every problem.
Who roll over when they hear the word 'responsibility'.
Who destroy buildings and take joy in their demolition.

Kids who let fear be the main cause of ignorance and stagnation.
Who don't bother to search for a way out of the handcuffs.
Who sing songs of partial truth but mostly pretense fabrications.
Who tell themselves that they can be anything...but choose not to.
Who sit in their room and write poems with gold ink.
Who take a trip to Neverland and never come back.
Who ride rollercoasters with no safety bar.
Who imagine things so farfetched that scientists can't figure it out.
Who look towards the heavens for answers they don't have questions for.
Who burp but continue to eat more and more.
Who become fat off of what life feeds them.
Who think homosexuals are aliens from a far away galaxy.

I've seen kids rearrange the stars to create their own image.
Kids who know everything about triviality and nothing about reality.
Who conclude perfect, precious prologue with ugly epilogue.
Who turn bad into worse in a blink of an eye.
Who just don't wanna see that everyone has to die.

I've also seen kids of my generation endure the system and create miracles.
Who make no excuses and do what needs to be done.
Who find cures for diseases brought on by the human race.
Who look at the world as a product and not a cause.
Who sees that WE are the world.
